How do I...?

How do I get a library card?

We are thrilled you're interested in getting a library card! The process to get your own card is simple! Follow any of the options below.

  • Call us during business hours (M-F 10-6). Be prepared to provide us with your name and contact information. We'll set up your card information, and then wait for you to come by the library to verify your identity with your photo ID and proof of address.
  • Come directly to the library. Bring verification of your identity and address (your driver's license or an envelope addressed to you would both work fine).
  • Fill out an online application to get your library card mailed to you. Your card recieved in this way will be good for up to 30 days, during which time you will need to bring your photo ID and proof of residency to the library to be verified.

Once your identity has been verified, voila! A brand new library card is yours! Your card is honored at any library in Coos or Curry County. You may visit any library and return items here, or our items there. Our card catalog reflects the entire database of materials in both counties. As such, you can request an item from another library and, through our regular inter-library service, have it delivered to you here.

How do I find the item I want?

Start by searching our online catalog for your item. Try searching by title first, followed by author or other contributor if you don't see what you're looking for. If you've tried that and haven't been able to find the book, CD, or film you're interested in, you can request the item be borrowed from a library elsewhere in the country or you can request the library purchase the item.

Inter-Library Loans are available to patrons in good standing. To request an ILL, simply fill out this form. Be prepared with your contact information, library card number, and the pertinent information about the item you want. Alternatively, you can call the library and ask us to request it for you!

If you'd like to submit a purchase request for an item, sign in to your Coastline Account in the upper right corner of this page. Once logged in, click the "Materials Requests" link in the left side account menu and then click "Submit a new materials request." Alternatively, you can call the library and ask us to request it for you!

How do I place a hold?

In order to check out any items, first you have to make a hold on the item you want. There are two options for placing holds. To place a hold for pickup, call the library at (541)396-2166 for assistance or login to your Coastline library account. To be clear, you DO NOT have to do both of these things. You only need to do one to successfully place a hold. Your needs may make one option preferable to you, so we'll explain each process below.

CALL THE LIBRARY
We are here and available Monday through Friday from 10 AM until 6 PM, and Saturday from 12 PM until 5 PM. We love to hear from our patrons, so feel free to call us if you want someone to walk through getting a hold placed with you.

USE THE CATALOG WEBSITE
You can use our online catalog to access the items at every library in Coos or Curry County. Through it, you can search by title, author, subject, or item type to find what you want to check out. Start by logging in. You do this by clicking on "Log In" at the top right portion of the page, and using your personal library card number and password. After you log in, you'll be able to see holds you've already placed and items you currently have checked out. Now you're ready to start browsing! Once you've found an item you'd like, click the "place hold" button. Make sure your information is correct, that you have the right item, and that it's going to the library where you'd like to pick it up, and then you're good to go!

How do Interlibrary Loans work?

The Coastline Library System shares resources between the public libraries of Coos and Curry Counties. With your library card, you can access all these materials! However, sometimes none of our local libraries will have the item you're looking for. When this is the case, we can request an Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

ILLs are items borrowed from libraries outside of Coos and Curry Counties. The lending library will pick the due date for the item, and may also set lending fees or late fees for their items. After requesting an ILL, it typically takes 2-3 weeks for the item to arrive, and there's a $3 fine if you don't pick up your item.

Interlibrary Loans are an exciting service that we are happy to provide our patrons! If you have any additional questions about ILLs, give us a call! You can request an ILL here.

Does the library need any volunteers?

We do! For more information, visit our Volunteer page to see all the volunteering options.
